Dear Peanut
Dear Peanut,
We don't know if you will be a boy or girl, and really didn't want to keep calling you "It" or "Baby." So "Peanut" it is. As I write this, I am 16 weeks pregnant (your due date is 2/4/21). Being pregnant with you is so exciting, and there are so many things going on in the world, we wanted to create something for you to read in the future to know what was happening. We had wanted to start a family for a little while, and could not have been more excited when we got pregnant. I found out June 1, 2020. Let me back up a little to explain what all had been happening in the months leading up to this date.
At the end of 2019, a new Coronavirus was discovered in China. Shortly after, it spread to the rest of the world. In March of 2020, we realized that it was moving fast through the United States, and was eventually called a global pandemic. Everything was shut down; restaurants, parks, businesses. Your cousin, Ferne, was born in February of 2020 and shortly after, New York was a disaster. Poor Marc and Kristen. Nana and Papa couldn't even meet Ferne until she was 5 months old. I was still working in the hospital and clinic, but wearing a mask and shield, and figuring out each day what was the safest course of action.
Despite the fact that the world turned upside down, practically overnight, there are some things in life that remain constant. I want you to remember that. When life seems so scary and negative, we humans continue to persevere, and we continue to love. That is exactly what you are! Love in a time of challenge in the world.
